CITING REFERENCES

  1. In-text Citations
  2. The 6th edition of the APA Publication Manual should be used for in-text citations and references. All references in the main text are indicated by the author-date method of in-text citation. The author’s last name, the year of publication, and the page number should appear in parentheses in the text. Even if the same material is referenced consecutively, abbreviations such as ibid and ibidem should not be used. The standard author-date method should be followed. e.g. (Okur, 2003, pp. 10-12) If the name of the author of the cited or quoted material appears as part of the sentence, there is no need to repeat the name of the author in parentheses. e.g. Okur (2003, p. 10)

Authors should not mix the thoughts of others with their own when paraphrasing, citing and quoting. All paraphrased and summarized information, citations and quotations should be clearly cited and referenced. Direct quotations should be enclosed with double quotation marks. If a citation is to be preferred rather than direct questions, authors should paraphrase the information into their own words. If authors use exactly the same words in another work, they should enclose the quotation with double quotation marks. They should include the author, year of publication, and page number for the reference in parentheses immediately after the end of the quotation. For citations, authors should make a reference to the work using the standard author-date method of in-text citation before ending the sentence with a period.

  1. If a citation or quotation is borrowed from a secondary source, the reference should be made as follows:

e.g. (Akkuş, 1980 as cited in Sezer, 2017, p. 9)

  1. When a work has two authors, cite both names every time it appears in the text (Önger & Gürgil, 2018, p. 7).

If a work has more than two authors, cite only the first author’s name followed by “et al.” in every citation. e.g. (Oğuz et al., 2006, p. 15)

  1. If a parenthetical citation includes two or more works, order them the same way as they appear in the reference list, that is, alphabetically and separate them by a semi-colon. e.g. (Güzel, 2011; Köprülü, 2003; Sezer, 2011)
  2. The abbreviation “SP” which stands for “Source Person” should be used for oral sources. If there are multiple oral sources, they should be numbered. These sources should be indicated in parentheses such as (SP-1) and (SP-2) every time they appear in the text. In such cases, the reference list should be divided into “oral sources” and “published sources” and information about the source persons should be given under the heading “oral sources”. e.g. SP-1: First name, last name, age, educational background, occupation, interview date and place.
  1. Reference List

REFERENCES

All sources used and cited in the text (except classical texts and personal interviews) should be listed in the reference list. Works that are not cited in the text should not be included in the reference list.

  1. B) Adding Citations in a Word Document Manually

Sources are ordered alphabetically by the last name of the authors. When the work does not have an author, use the title of the work. If you cite two or more works by the same author, order the references chronically. If you cite two or more works by the same author in the same year, order the references by placing lowercase letters immediately after the year such as “(2009a)” and “(2009b)”.

e.g.
